Clinique’s story began with a great conversation. The year was 1967 and revolution was in the air as a savvy US Vogue Magazine editor Carol Phillips interviewed Dr. Norman Orentreich, the high-profile New York dermatologist. Dr. Orentriech expressed a simple idea that would transform the beauty industry: Great Skin Can Be Created.

At the time the general attitude towards skin care was mainly down to lucky genes. But the resulting cover story marked the beginning of a new era of skin care, punctuated by ideas like: Products can improve your skin! You are not stuck with the skin you were born with! Convinced that Dr. Orentriech’s philosophy would resonate with woman around the world, the visionary Estee Lauder family recruited him, along with Carol Phillips, to bring their dialogue to life with a new line of products. One Clinique product is created based on 7200 times of studies and tests.

3 STEP CARE

In 1968, with the introduction of the now world-famous 3-Step Skin Care System – a daily cleansing, exfoliating and moisturising routine – Clinique was born. Just one year later Clinique opened its first counter in the UK. It was the first ever dermatologist-created, allergy-tested, 100% fragrance-free collection of beauty products ever marketed.

In 1976 Clinique was also the first prestige cosmetics company to recognise the different skin care needs of men and to provide them with a practical, approachable line of skin care – Skin Supplies for Men.

Today Clinique’s mission is to be the most trusted Prestige beauty brand in the world, with market leadership and authority in Dermatological Skincare and Foundation.
